Project: Whimsical

Two years in

Buckle in, I'm covering a lot of events in a short time !

It was two years ago when this idea truly started coming together and becoming a reality. I was already contacting first responder agencies and planning how to go public with the project. Thankfully my favorite radio station (The Bert Show) gave me some air time and it EXPLODED ! For a few days anyway, but isn't that how it always goes? All the rage and then out like a light, before you even know what happened. But, I wasn't giving up, I was not going to let this fizzle away, because I knew it needed to exist. I knew it could help. So, I kept sending emails, and searching, and sending more emails. I got phone calls from a couple Sheriffs. I got a few large orders from agencies that believed in my project, and a news station in Columbus Georgia asked if they could run a story on the decals. And again, it exploded for a short time. Then The Georgia Sheriff's Association put it on the back cover (right next to the address block) of their magazine. And at that moment I knew it was going to work, it was growing, and some pretty big names were starting to see it.

Fast forward to April 2021. With some agency support, the decals REALLY exploded ! Within 24 hours of the information being shared, Fox 5 Atlanta came to the office to interview me. They ran the segment four or five times over a few days. A local newspaper put the decal on the front page, and event three months later, newspapers are still sharing the information and gaining more interest in the decals. One of the Desperate Housewives shared the decal to her millions of followers (thanks to some serious sleuthing by my soon-to-be Sister-in-law). In June I was asked to teach an hour long block on Autism Awareness for Law Enforcement, by the Georgia Sheriff's Association, who has been the biggest supporter from the start. The first time they asked me I didn't take the opportunity for multiple reasons. When they asked a second time I pushed the fear and nervousness aside and said yes. And I'm so incredibly thankful that I did it. It was amazing. the reassuring nods from Deputies who know someone or have a child with Autism. The look of new information sinking in, really resonating. The feedback they gave me along the way. It was so fulfilling and I can't wait to be asked again!

I've gotten out-of-state requests from North Carolina all the way to California. I even had one mom from the United Kingdom reach out to me but unfortunately I had to turn her down because its -work- getting the decal to take off across my own state, I can't take on another whole country. She understood and supported the decal, and thanked me for what I'm doing. That's the best part, the amount of people profusely thanking me for doing this. Speaking for their family members who can't always speak for themselves.

All I did was see a need, and filled it.

and it's working. <3

ps-- to prevent the "Where you've seen us" section from getting cluttered, I've posted the newspaper articles here.
