If you didn't read that in Kevin Hart's voice, well.. the humor was lost on you. Anyway! So earlier this week I got invited to a Webinar for the Code Enforcement Office Safety Training Series, which trains Code Enforcement officers from all around the country. They requested to include my flyer in the presentation, so of course I obliged ! So picture this, I'm working at my L-shaped desk, shoes off, headphones on, listening to the presentation which is pulled up on one screen while I type on the other. Then I hear "So I'm going to invite her to the stage for just a moment to speak about her decals!" I panic. I was not prepared to speak on the decals, and I can't just start talking about it at my desk because I'm in an office with several other people who have conversations with each other, and phone calls. And at this point, I don't know how much I'm going to talk. So I feverishly disconnect my laptop from its base, tear the headphones cord from under my keyboard, business card holder, and stacks of papers so I can bolt to a private room where I can talk about these decals off the cuff. I almost leave the cubicle when I realize: I don't have shoes on. For a second I almost continued. But I saw my boss directly in my path, and I knew he would say something about my bare feet on the office floor. So the presenter has sent me the invite, but I can't click it yet because I'm panicking, she's filibustering, likely wondering why I haven't accepted the invite yet. I shove my feet in my shoes, one barely on, and shuffle-hustle my way to the private office. I explained the decal, what caused me to create it, and the explained the buzzwords that can be on them. I felt like i was talking 100 miles an hour because my heart was racing and I felt out of breath. Soon after me, they invited the actual guest speaker to give his Autism presentation that he has traveled all over the country presenting to different agencies. I received a ton of love, interest, and positive feedback from the group, the coordinators and the guest speaker. Then I put my heel securely in my shoe and casually walked back to my desk, heart still racing.
